Sonlight Newsletter

2nd Quarter 2025  April 1, 2025

Good morning to all supporters!

It is my prayer that while reading the newsletter, you are physically and spiritually healthy. Before saying more, Gyna, the staff and me thank you daily for your prayers and monthly support. To tell you the truth, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts because Haiti has so many people who are suffering due to lack of jobs, education for their children, and starvation. But you have made these things possible for those who work at Sonlight Christian Mission. Once again, thank you for all you do daily for us. I know you are praying for Haiti and want to know if there is any progress in the Haitian crisis.

Please, please continue to pray for my homeland because things are getting worse daily. I thought with the presence of the Kenyans force, things would be better, but we have not seen any progress. National Route number 1 has been closed for three and half years. Burned bodies are in many areas of Port au Prince and the gangs are burning many homes daily in several areas there. Many schools are closed in Port au Prince and the International airport has been closed since November. The roads are not safe at all, and hospitals are closed. In other words, Port au Prince is in a dire situation.
Many are starving, begging on the streets; and many businesses are closed. Churches are unable to meet in many areas. Gangs occupy 52% of Port au Prince and folks are leaving there daily. Some of them do not have a clue where they are going to stay. There are many who come to Gonaives and other cities. Twenty minutes away from Sonlight Christian Mission there are many gangs, but we can go downtown of Gonaives to purchase goods for the school children. Goods are very expensive, and nothing is cheap in Haiti right now. We praise God for His protection over us!

I always tell the Church to keep the faith because God is able to do the impossible for those who believe. Please be in prayer for us to get a newer van because the 1999 van at Sonlight Christian Mission stopped working last week. It is an important need for the mission as it supplies transport for many of our people and runs many of the errands for picking up supplies. The mechanics are working on it to see if they can fix it. Pray for the 11th grade that we want to add next September and continue to pray for my family and Sonlight.

Gyna and I thank God because despite the issues Haiti has, Sonlight C.M. is still educating, feeding; and saving souls of those who need Jesus.

Please remember that without God and you, we cannot do what we are doing in Gonaives. Keep up the good work.
Thank you and God bless you forever,
Melio

******************************************************************************************************************************If anyone knows of a fifteen passenger Van that is for sale we can get for a discount, please let me know. Also, if you would like to support the need for buying a newer van, please make note on your contribution it is for the van fund, and I will ensure it gets placed for that need.
God bless each one of you throughout the coming year,

Your prayers are always needed for Haiti and the Mission

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made know to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Prayer request and Praises:

• Pray for the school children, staff and congregation going to and from the mission with the gang’s presence.
• Pray for new supporters to cover costs of adding the 11th, 12th and 13th school grades.
• Pray for a newer van to be donated to send to the mission to replace the one that continues breaking down.
• Pray for God to prick someone’s heart to desire taking on the position of treasurer and forwarding agent.
• Praise God for His continued provisions and protection over the mission.

Thank you all for your interest, commitment, and prayers for the mission. I know without
the prayers, we would not be where we are today. I praise God for each one of you.
Kenny Lovelace, Treasurer

Please share this with all your congregation, family, and friends. Prayerfully they may become interested in serving this mission with prayers and finance.

These pictures are the mission’s second story addition of the school and their morning opening ceremony with prayer, singing their anthem while raising the Haiti flag, their pledge of allegiance to the flag, and ending with a spiritual song. These pictures were taken on March 24, 2025. May God be praised in all of this!

I always enjoy chatting with Melio on WhatsApp or talking on the phone to see how things are going with the mission and Melio in general. I have to admit I am longing to make another trip there to see my brothers and sisters in Christ and let them know how much we have missed coming over to visit them and assist with whatever we can. I have approximately 12 individuals who have told me they want to go on the next trip as soon as it is safe to do so. My heart breaks because that time is not in the near future and most likely won’t be withing this physical year. I know God has a plan and with the protection He is giving all at the mission and seeing to their needs, tells me God still has plans for the Mission and all those it supports. There are so many like-minded missions in Hait that I know if they were not there, the lives of so many would mostly cease to exist.
With that I want to thank each of you for your continued support. Everyone has proven that with God little is much. So often the mountain we see before us to meet the continual needs of the mission seems overwhelming, but God always makes everything work out. I am blessed to get to witness the miracles of Gods provisions over and over and how He uses each one of you to meet them. It gives me hope knowing that in all the chaos, danger of the gangs, starving individuals and outright despair for most Haitians, the mission stands as an oasis for all who attend it and many who live around it. Praise God He is always in control!
Blessings to you all,

Kenny Lovelace, Treasurer
